Getting to the Root of Your Symptoms
For thousands of years, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has used a holistic approach to health that helps restore a body to its balanced state. A body in a balanced state is more energetic, at ease, and better able to cope with the stresses of everyday life.
Many Western medical practices address symptoms but neglect looking for the root cause of a patient's pain or illness. While pharmaceuticals are often necessary, they often only treat the symptoms and often lose their effectiveness over time or when the patient stops treatment; they can also have uncomfortable or harmful side effects.
Maureen uses acupuncture and herbal medicine and dietary modifications to target the causes of a body's dysfunction. Her goal is to restore the whole body to wellness – to the point where further treatments eventually become unnecessary.
Integration of TCM into Mainstream Medicine
An estimated 3.1 million U.S. adults received acupuncture, and about 17 percent of adults used herbs as medical treatment, according to a 2007 study by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM). The NCCAM, the federal government's lead agency for scientific research on complementary and alternative medicine, deems acupuncture a safe and effective medical practice. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) recognize acupuncture as a safe and effective form of treatment.
